PROGRESS:
Works displayed from the latest to earliest iteration. Hover over image for description.
![]() Texture WIP file ver. 87Final texture and lighting featured a reflection-less caramel, petals with bump, a brand new image-based texture for the cone, work with the ice cream specular, and a few lighting tweaks. | ![]() Texture WIP file ver. 80I lightened it up a bit and tweaked a few shaders, but otherwise not much for this iteration since most of my work at this time was animation-related. | ![]() Texture WIP file ver. 67Finally using a background plate, I began lighting work in earnest, though this version was much too dark. Also, due to suggestions by the class, I remade the cone to be less stem-like and flimsy. In this version, the caramel had too much reflection, and the cone texture was still lackluster, but this is when I discovered the magic of UVLayout, which made it so much easier to texture my petals and cone. |

![]() Texture WIP file ver. 61With the addition of the caramel, I continued refining my textures and trying my hand at developing the caramel. Suggestions from the class lead me to pump a bit more saturation into my color scheme, but the cool lighting rendered my efforts vain. | ![]() Texture WIP file ver. 46I got help from Miguel Lopez on how to use an environment light in Houdini, which greatly improved my lighting situation by providing some much needed ambient occlusion. I tried some new textures on the piroullines and cone, and though the former worked just fine, the latter really wasn't. I worked more with the ice cream shader as well, and unfortunately ended up with something that looked more like porcelain than dessert. | ![]() Texture WIP file ver. 41A toned-down version of the previous iteration, this was not quite so washed out. I also worked with the softness of the shadows. |
![]() Texture WIP file ver. 35An attempt at giving the key light a better direction, shaping the soft serve and attempting to get a good rim on the ice cream and cherries. It was still washed out, and I should have been working with the plate, but it was at least beginning to go in the right direction. | ![]() Texture WIP file ver. 36Using some found images, I began my shading simply, blocking in colors and trying out displacement. Lighting was very basic and washed out, since there were only a few lights put in. |
